About Jane Tomkiewicz, CTAT, mAmSAT
My background in dance and music led me to the Alexander Technique during my years on the downtown and worldbeat music scene. I trained and certified to teach at the American Center for the Alexander Technique (ACAT). The training is a 3 year /1600 hour course. Since certification I have remained a member of the national professional organization The American Society for the Alexander Technique (AmSAT). I have been teaching the groups at the 92nd Street Y since 1992 and privately in Manhattan since 1990.

I’ve served as the Executive Director of the American Center of the Alexander Technique from 1996-2008. In 2008 I started teaching group and private lessons in Brooklyn at the Feldenkrais Center of Park Slope. My teaching is also informed by my limited experience with but profound respect for Iyengar Yoga and Buddhist philosophy and meditation. Teaching group and private lessons these many years has provided me the opportunity to connect with many people in and around my community – from a great variety of professions and with a great variety of pain management and workplace efficiency goals.

It’s reaffirmed for me just how much the Alexander Technique can enhance people’s everyday lives – whether they’re performers, business people, teachers, trades people, writers, sales people, students or dog walkers!
